6 Top Picks for May

Thu 13 Apr 2017

Easter is fast approaching, which means May is on the way! We've put together our top picks for events in Derby that you'd be hopping mad to miss (you can tell we're getting ready for comedy festival with that terrible pun)...

1. In Tents and Purposes - Thursday 4 May

This show  comes fresh from a 5★ star sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe so you know you've got something special in store! Follow two friends as they compete with their egos to tell a comic, time-hopping story exploring whether our lives are predetermined or shaped by our choices.

Don't miss this if... you're looking for answers to big questions, but in a funny context.

2. Derby Comedy Festival - Friday 5 - Sunday 14 May

Derby Comedy Festival is back with a brilliant new line up of comedians performing at venues across the city. We would recommend Tony Law, Marcel Lucont and Cartoonopolis to tickle your funny bone! Or if you're thinking of becoming a comedian yourself, swing by the Lost Boys' Creating Comedy Characters workshop.

Don't miss this if... you love to laugh. Obviously.

3. Arena Shows - Thursday 11 - Friday 12 May

We're all shook up - Shawn Klush is coming to Derby Arena with his Elvis World Tour on 11 May! Featuring original Elvis band members and an orchestra, this night is set to be huge for fans of the King. And when Elvis has left the building (sorry) the King of Pop will be performing. NAVI is the world's leading Michael Jackson tribute, who will be thrilling fans on 12 May.

Don't miss this if... you always wanted to see Elvis or MJ in concert but never had the chance.

4. German Bierfest Derby - Thursday 11 - Sunday 14 May

Enjoy a long weekend sampling the best of German cuisine and beer at this festival of tasty food and drink. Everyone is welcome as there will be traditional activities for the kids to enjoy too!

Don't miss this if... you want to try something new.

5. Hopeless Romantics - Tuesday 16 May

Trouble in love? Alan understands - he's single. Very single. Which wouldn’t be a problem, but his sisters are all living romantic dreams with their various successful partners. Surely asking the work experience girl to pose as his date for the night can't cause too much harm? Find out in this sweet show.

Don't miss this if... you're a sucker for a love story.

6. Burton - Wednesday 17 May

This one man show will have you feeling a range of emotions as you learn more about the fascinating life of Richard Burton. From his stage and screen exploits to his turbulent relationship with Elizabeth Taylor, Burton has received critical acclaim at two Edinburgh Fringe Festivals.

Don't miss this if... you're a fan of drama.

Let us know if you try any of our top picks! We'd love to see your reviews on Facebook and Twitter.
