Derby Arena hosted its first ever boxing event on Saturday 25 July exceeding all expectations. Around 2000 people attended the event to see Nick Blackwell fight Damon Jones for the British Middleweight title. Now the event organisers say they want to come back for more.

Mick Hennessy, Promoter said

“The Hennessy Sports Boxing event at Derby Arena on the 25 July was a knock out success and we are looking forward to bring another event to Derby soon.”

Martin Rawson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities and City Centre Regeneration said:

“Derby Arena is living up to expectations as a first class venue for both sport and entertainment. I’m very happy that the first large boxing event has been such a success.”

The night also saw a thrilling light-middleweight fight between Myron Mills and the veteran Kevin McCauley. Also appearing on the night were the fighters Lenny Daws, Leigh Wood, Louis Norman, Yusuf Safa and Young Fury.
