Thu 19 Nov 2015

The Festive season has gotten underway in Derby with Saturday's Christmas Lights Switch-On and despite the torrential rain thousands of you turned out to join in the celebrations.

Our panto star Natasha Hamilton was a big hit as the headline act, wowing the crowd with the songs Son of Preacher, The Tide is High and Whole Again before switching on the Lights at 6pm.

A host of local acts and performers took part in the Christmas Lights Parade, while Capital FM radio presenters Dino and Pete took the reins on stage once again.

The first live act of the evening was local singers Kaleidoscope Community Music Choir led by Willow Songsmith who sang Shepherds Arise, Sound Your Instruments Of Joy, Barwell Old Hark, The Wren, Diadem and Pentonville.

Acoustic singer/songwriter Niall Fitz then took to the stage firing up the crowd before handing over to The Herron Brothers who pleased the crowd with a talented performance.

Mayor of Derby, Councillor Paul Pegg led a minute’s silence to remember the many victims of the tragic events in Paris that took place the night before. The Mayor also spoke to thank all the fantastic acts for their performances and making the event so special.
