Derby Folk Festival 2014 was a sell out!

Derby Folk Festival 2014

Wed 8 Oct 2014

The 2014 Derby Folk Festival took place over the weekend of Fri 3 - Sun 5 Oct and was an out and out success! With all available tickets snapped up - the eighth festival achieved its best results yet!

With nearly 2000 people attending the main events in the City Marquee, The Old Bell Hotel and Guildhall Theatre, thousands more of you enjoyed many of the free fringe events taking place throughout the Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter. From dance displays to ceilidhs and workshops; folk fans - old or new - could enjoy the events for free and join in with some of the fantastic festival atmosphere.

Over on the main stage, Derby Folk Festival patron Lucy Ward recieved not one but two standing ovations at the end of her set, proving a humbling experience for the Derby girl "The double standing ovation certainly didn't hurt hehe but it was a pleasure to perform to such a warm and friendly crowd" she wrote on her official Facebook page and all other acts went down well with the attendees!

The success of the eighth Derby Folk Festival proves just how vital it is to the city and many local businesses told of record sales throughout the weekend due to the amount of visitors that came into the city centre to attend the festival.

Even the Arts and Craft fair saw a record number of visitors during the course of Sat and Sun, with over 9350 of you visiting the stalls - a figure triple the amount normally seen on an average weekend fair.

There was high praise from social media as well;

Sián Venables said "it was brilliant, feet still hurting from all the dancing. Here's to next year!"

Nolan Salmon said "Would like to thank all the artists and Festival team for a superb weekend. Actually kind of missing being there! We did as Mr Tams asked and had the best of times. Now back in the world of work!"

@mikecostasays said "It would have been easy to pull the plug on @DerbyFolk after the fire. Thankfully they didn't. It was wonderful! Loved it!!!!"

If you attended this years festival and would like to give us some feedback - we'd love to hear from you! You can email derbylive@derby.gov.uk or send us a message through social media @derbylive or @derbyfolk on Twitter, DerbyLIVE or derby.folk.festival on Facebook.

We're already looking ahead to next year's festival (we know - the City Marquee has ONLY just come down!) and we hope you are too!
