Festive fun enjoyed by 69,000 of you!

Mon 7 Jan 2013

We're celebrating after entertaining almost 69,000 of you over the festive season, with visits to The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan at the Assembly Rooms, the Derby Christmas Ice Rink on the Market Place and Snow Play at the Guildhall Theatre.

Peter Pan starring Britain’s Got Talent winner George Sampson and EastEnders and Gavin & Stacey star Larry Lamb, was our 10th annual pantomime with Paul Holman Associates. Smashing all box office records, the show was seen by almost 49,000 of you, a staggering increase of 38% on audiences who saw last year’s pantomime Dick Whittington.

Peter Pan attracted audiences from all over the UK from as far afield as Belfast, Guernsey, Jersey, Scotland and Cornwall, some of whom braved adverse weather conditions, flight delays and long drives to get to Derby in time for the show. In fact Peter Pan brought in over 23,000 people from outside of Derby city centre.

Almost 14,000 tickets were taken up by schools, over 1000 family tickets were sold and over 100 people enjoyed our first VIP event, with an exclusive meet & greet with the stars of the show. This year 53% of you chose to book online, an increase of 35% on last year’s pantomime, thanks to our new pick a seat facility. A third of you took advantage of our earlybird offer, saving money by booking early and tickets are already selling fast for Derby LIVE’s 2013/14 pantomime, Jack & the Beanstalk.

Returning for a third year, Derby Christmas Ice Rink attracted over 16,000 skaters to Derby’s Market Place. This is the second year that we've worked with Showplace to bring a ‘real ice’ rink to Derby and this year the partnership extended to working with Fat Cats who provided an outdoor cafebar alongside the rink.
