Join in with our St George's Day Celebrations

Derby LIVE are working in association with FOLK 3D and The Lost Boys, along with local schools and community groups to bring you a feast of family fun for St Geroge's Day.

Join us on Saturday 23 April as we celebrate Merrie Olde England. This free event will see Derby's Marketplace bustling with morris dancing, a craft fair and lots of English eccentricity throughout the morning and afternoon. 12:10pm - A Morris dancing performance from Black Pig Border Morris at The Ram.

12:30pm - Starting at The Ram, St George will lead a parade which will wind its way through the city, picking up dancers from Pecsaetan Morris, Toby Bennett Clog, Stone Monkey Sword Dancers, Simon Read Broom Dancer and finishing at the Market Place waterfall at 12:50pm.

Market Place Events

10:30am - 4pm - The Arts and Craft fair will return to the Market Place.

11:30am - 4pm - Reach The Core are providing free Have A Go Long Bow Archery throughout the day.

Noon - 12:50pm - Performance from Open Road (Folk Group) at the Market Place Waterfall.

12:50pm - A tongue-in-cheek re-telling of the story of St George and the Dragon from The Lost Boys.

1:10pm - Welcome from the Mayor of Derby, Councillor Paul Pegg.

1:20pm - A Mummers Play by St Andrews School Guisers. A new take on a traditional style of street theatre.

1:30pm - Choirs from Portway Junior School, Wyndham Primary Academy and St Andrews School perform songs with a Merrie England theme.

1:40pm - A performance of Broom dancing by Portway Junior School, St James Junior School and Wyndham Primary Academy. Students will be adding a new twist to this old English traditional dance style.

1:50pm - A Morris dance display by Black Pig Border Morris.

2pm - A Mummers Play by Portway Junior School, St James Junior School and Wyndham Primary Academy Guisers. Expect to meet heroic characters from Derby and of course, there will be Dragons!

2.15pm - A Morris dance display from Pecsaetan Morris.

2:25pm - Maypole dancing. You are invited to join us in a dance around the Maypole. No experience required just join in and have fun or watch as we weave the ribbons around the pole.

2:40pm - Flash Mob Ceilidh. Join in with this easy form of dancing or stay and watch the fun.

3pm - Simon Read Broom Dancer and Toby Bennett Clog.

3:10pm - Stone Monkey Sword Dancers.

3:30pm - Dancing displays at Iron Gate, Cornmarket and Market Hall by Black Pig Border Morris, Pecsaetan Morris, Toby Bennett Clog, Stone Monkey Sword Dancers, Simon Read Broom Dancer.
