Markeaton Park goes from strength to strength.

Fri 5 Aug 2016

It’s been twelve months since Markearton Park re-opened following a £3.5 million refurbishment and the feedback has been very positive, with more people enjoying the park than ever before.

The renovated craft village at the heart of the park is now fully occupied by a range of talented crafters and makers. Sew-n-Jo run by Jo Baxter is the latest addition to the village. Jo makes a range of gifts and offers sewing lessons and workshops.

The village is also home to Cocoa Tabbywho offers a delicious range of specialist handmade chocolates, including some rather unique flavours. Original Monkey who have now been at the village for 6 months are specialists in personalised gifts, engraving and printing.

There are nine businesses based in the village altogether; Paint a Pot, Derby Stained Glass, Studios in the Park, Lilac Joinery, Matthew Morris Furniture, Upcycled Creative, Original Monkey, Cocoa Tabby Chocolate Shop and Sew-n-Jo.

The Orangery Café has been refurbished and the new menu is going down a treat, they serve breakfast rolls, lovely cakes and great pizzas.

The craft village has hosted a number of fabulous events from markets to outdoor theatre. The wonderful theatre company Oddsocks recently finished their second season of outdoor theatre at Markeaton which included productions of Macbeth and Much Ado About nothing.

In August the craft village will host outdoor cinema for the first time with screenings of Ghost on Friday 12 August and Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Saturday 13 August.

There are loads of other activities to do in the park too, including Footgolf, Mundy Play Centre, Pitch and putt, Tennis and Ball Courts, Rowing Boats and pedalows, Cricket and the Famous Trains Model Railways.

The refurbishments have really put Markeaton Park on the map and visitors come from far and wide especially for big events like the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon, Race For Life, Pretty muddy and the Cycle Derby Sportive.

Keep an eye on our website as there is lots more going on, over the next few weeks there is the Big Fun Run on Saturday 20 August, Bubble Rush and the Cycle Derby Cyclo X on Saturday 24 September. Plus, there are plans for Family Festivities at the park over the Christmas period.
