Quality time together on Mother's Day

We are looking forward to spending some quality time with our motherly figures next Sunday and we would love to share our ideas on things to do for those we love.

Derby LIVE offers inspiration through the calendar of events it has ready to entertain mum's of all kinds throughout 2016. Anne of Green Gablesan enchanting stage edition of the 1908 best-selling novel, telling the coming of age story about the young, redheaded orphan who is sent to Green Gables by mistake is on at the Guildhall Theatre from Sunday 3 April – Wednesday 6 April. Prolong the experience with a tasty cream tee matinee, available for the 2:30pm performances on Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 April for an additional £3.75. Tickets to this show cost £13.75 with concession rates at £11.75 and family tickets are also available.

Pop Factor is definitely one for that mum who sings in the shower, on the way to work or to embarrass you when you have guests around! A talented cast of professional performers are ready to give us the ultimate party experience in this live and interactive show which pays tribute to a variety of the top chart hits including Little Mix, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran and many more. Pop Factor will be performed at the Guildhall Theatre on Saturday 2 April at 2:30pm and 6:30pm. Tickets for this event cost £14.75 and family tickets are also available.

Who wouldn't like a picnic outdoors with some outdoor theatre in the beautiful surroundings of Markeaton Park? Derby LIVE's Outdoor Theatre Season kicks off in June at Markeaton Park Craft Village with Oddsocks’ Productions, starting with Macbeth from Wednesday 15 June – Saturday 18 June. Shakespeare’s dramatic story of ambition turned bad is brought vividly to life in Oddsocks’ hilarious new musical adaptation. The ingenious theatre group then return to Markeaton Park Craft Village in July with their rendition of Much Ado About Nothing from Tuesday 26 July – Thursday 28 July. This high-octane musical version of Shakespeare’s battle of the sexes features hit from the best music decades. Tickets for these shows cost £16 with optional cream tees and platters available.

Finally, why not treat your mum to an invitation to Derby’s biggest ball. Cinderella is the 2016 pantomime taking place at Derby Arena from Tuesday 6 December – Tuesday 3 January. The classic fairy tale of a beautiful girl forced to serve her jealous stepsisters takes to the stage in traditional pantomime fashion, with dazzling new sets and costumes, hilarious comedy, fabulous music and dance routines and lots of audience participation. Tickets are already on sale starting from £10 with concession rates, family tickets, LIVEsaver and group deals available.

Derby LIVE’s calendar is jam-packed with other interesting and exciting performances; therefore Derby LIVE gift vouchers and national theatre tokens are also available for purchase and can be redeemed against our Derby LIVE performances. 

Derby Parks boasts some of Derby’s most picturesque environments. In particular, the recently restored Markeaton Park Craft Village and Orangery can play host to an enjoyable afternoon with its range of handmade goods and gifts on offer in the craft village workshops and businesses, based in the old stable yard in the centre of Markeaton Park. Following the exploration of the craft village, the Orangery invites customers to enjoy a range of delicious food and drinks in their café which overlooks Markeaton Park’s formal gardens. The Orangery Café opening times from Monday – Friday are 10:00am – 3:30pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:30am – 4:00pm. If you're looking for something more active, then take advantage of a variety of unique activities, from track cycling to exercising in a state-of-the-art gym. Try some family bonding outside the living room and invite Mother’s to have a go at cycling on the brand-new Velodrome track at Derby Arena, with the Introduction to track cycling session. Cycle hire, helmet and gloves are included in the price, with shoes also available for hire. For only £14.60, an experience full of adrenaline is guaranteed to be a Mother’s Day present that will not be forgotten.

Women’s track cycling has proved extremely popular on Derby Arena’s indoor cycling track, with sessions taking place every Thursday from 7:00-8:00pm. The female-only environment has been well received, as it tackles the boundaries to cycling participation and makes the most of such an exciting and rare opportunity throughout the United Kingdom. Derby Leisure also offers great facilities throughout, with comprehensive gym, pool, swim and exercise programmes. Multiple locations across Derby city allow members to use their membership at any facility they wish.
