The Great Hall is temporarily closed for maintenance work

Sat 1 Jun 2013

The Assembly Rooms' Great Hall is now closed until the end of September whilst essential maintenance work is carried out.

The Great Hall ceiling is being replaced, with the new ceiling improving the acoustics and lighting within the venue and a new hardwood sprung floor will also be laid, to provide a better experience for dancing on and for shows and events utilising the Great Hall in its flat floor format. Also a new fire alarm and detection system with new emergency lighting will be installed throughout the building, ensuring that a high level of safety is maintained for years to come.

Have a look at our time lapse video to see what's happened so far.

The Assembly Rooms' Darwin and Guildhall Theatre are open as usual, with drama, amateur theatre, music and the annual CAMRA Summer Beer Festival.

The Great Hall will reopen with a packed programme in October. You'll be able to choose from comedy from Ed Byrne, the 7th annual Derby Folk Festival, Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, The Nutcracker, Ellen Kent’s Opera Aida, Ray Mears and Joe Pasquale in Ha Ha Holmes.

Plus we'll also be busy as usual with an extensive Outdoor Events programme, including The Darley Park Concert, which returns to its traditional slot on Sunday 1 September.
