Casting and Co-producing at Derby LIVE
Derby LIVE produced theatre productions are cast by the director of the respective show. Pete Meakin, Derby LIVE's Artistic Producer, directs two shows each year. The remainder are directed by freelance directors or the artistic directors of companies we are co-producing with
- we do not have a separate casting department or casting director. However, we do use the services of Catherine Willis of Catherine Willis Casting for the majority of our produced theatre work. Expressions of interest and CV's can be sent to her at catherine@cwcasting.co.uk
- we do not have a company or 'through-cast' a season of plays. Productions are cast separately, taking account of the specific demands of each role
- because we work with a number of different directors throughout the year, we do not hold general auditions
- we employ actors who are resident all over the U.K. We do have an explicit commitment, however, to supporting and developing artists who are resident in Derby and Derbyshire. Auditions are held in Derby and, when appropriate, in London and other areas of the country.
How you can help us with casting
- when we make specific requirements regarding a certain role, please accept what we say and only apply if you can genuinely supply what is needed
- if you would like us to return your photos and show reels, please send an A4 sized stamped, addressed envelope
- if you are offered an audition and can't make it, please let us know. We can then offer this opportunity to someone else
- please do not try to 'gatecrash' auditions.
Please remember
- we cannot always respond to the hundreds of submissions and invitations to shows we receive each year
- we will always try to be helpful. However, we can only supply bespoke assistance with auditions to members of our Youth and Community Theatres.
And if we offer you a role, please note:
- all actors employed for solely Derby LIVE productions are paid the same wage, regardless of age, experience or size of role
- we take our responsibilities for child protection very seriously and contracts of employment, including those for freelance artists, may be subject to the receipt of satisfactory checks by the Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure Service.
