Crowds flock to Derby for spectacular St George’s Day celebrations
Tue 28 Apr 2026
Thousands of people packed into Derby City Centre on Sat 25 Apr to enjoy a vibrant programme of free family-friendly activities as the city celebrated St George’s Day in style.
The event, a collaboration between Derby LIVE, The Lost Boys and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement District (BID), brought English folklore and heritage to life, with dragons, knights and medieval fun taking over the city centre.
Visitors of all ages were treated to a variety of entertainment, including the ever-popular live re-enactment of the legendary St George and the Dragon battle, performed by The Lost Boys.
Across the city, families got hands-on with a wide range of interactive activities. Budding knights tested their skills in sparring sessions with Team Falchion at Derby Market Place, while younger visitors enjoyed a puppet show by AVP Theatre and creative workshops including shield making and medieval crafts at Derby Market Hall.
There was also plenty to explore throughout the day, folk singer performances and a dragon walkabout creating a lively atmosphere and offering something for everyone to enjoy.
This year’s free event at the heart of the city once again highlighted Derby’s commitment to bringing people together through culture and community.
Councillor Nadine Peatfield, Leader of Derby City Council and Cabinet Member for City Centre, Regeneration, Culture and Tourism, said:
It’s wonderful to see Derby city centre so full of energy, with families and visitors coming together to celebrate St George’s Day. Events like this play an important role in creating shared moments and showcasing what our city has to offer.
Brad Worley, Manager for the Derby Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter BIDs, said:

With another successful year complete, DerbyLIVE looks forward to welcoming visitors back for more exciting events throughout 2026.
