In Derby – Christmas gift ideas with a difference

Tue 3 Dec 2019

The countdown to Christmas has well and truly started, but if picking the perfect gift for a loved-one is giving you a headache, Derby LIVE and Derby Active have put together a fabulous list to give them an experience to remember.

For thrill-seekers, Derby Arena’s track could be the ultimate gift with the steepest section a whopping 42degree angle. This year, Derby Arena have put together a Christmas gift package, which includes a voucher for a one-hour track session and a pair of track mitts. Priced at £37.99, it is available from Derby Arena.

The track mitts are part of the Derby Arena’s very own cycling kit range which has been created exclusively by British designers NoPinz. The gift voucher can be used by both beginner and experienced track cyclists. Those who have yet to go on the track can use it for stage one of the track accreditation, which has four stages in total. A coach will lead them through all four stages in fun and exhilarating sessions which can see participants go from complete novice to confident track cyclist. Those who are already accredited can use the voucher to purchase an hour on the track.

For fans of panto and concerts, Derby LIVE has just the ticket for some great shows at Derby Arena which could make the perfect gift. For a family treat between Christmas and New Year, Derby Arena’s pantomime, Peter Pan, is the perfect opportunity to get everybody together. The show runs until Saturday 4 January.

Going into the new year, Whitney - Queen of the Night returns on Wednesday 18 March, having wowed the Derby Arena crowds earlier this year and completed a hit West End run. It’s a stunning celebration of the music and life of Whitney Houston, one of the greatest singers of our time, bringing glitz, glam and soulful singalong songs including I Wanna Dance With Somebody, I Will Always Love You, The Greatest Love Of All and many more back to Derby.

If you know any Queen fans then secure them a ticket for Queen Machine Symphonic on Friday 17 April. Queen favourites such as We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody and Another One Bites the Dust will fill the arena as West End leading lady Kerry Ellis and Scandinavian tribute stars Queen Machine take the stage with their fully orchestrated UK tour.

The ever-popular Jimmy Carr returns to Derby in 2020. Fans of the quick-witted comedian can enjoy tickets for his show on Saturday 12 September. Following a successful show in Derby earlier in the year, The Dreamboys will be back to provide the ultimate night out on Saturday 11 July – could this be the ultimate gift too?
