Over 60 acts confirmed for Derby Comedy Festival
Fri 11 Mar 2016
This year’s festival is the biggest yet, with over 60 events taking place over 10 days in April and May, bringing together more businesses and venues than ever before.
Some of the organisations involved in this year’s festival haven’t previously been involved in the city’s entertainment programme, never mind the Comedy Festival itself. The programme for 2016 includes a wide variety of shows, with many more Midlands-based comedians at its heart.
Now in its third year, the festival will take place from Friday 29 April to Sunday 8 May 2016. Working with local businesses and non-traditional performance spaces, Derby LIVE, Funhouse Comedy, Furthest From The Sea, Lost Boys and NCF Comedy and have come together to bring some of the finest comedic talents to Derby.
This year will see the Festival supported by several local organisations including the Cathedral Quarter Derby, Discover Derby, St Peters Quarter Derby and Trent Barton.
Along with the supporting organisations there will be a dozen venues making this festival a success. They include traditional theatres and bars to the less traditional sports clubs and outdoor spaces.
The full list of venues includes Amber Café, Bean Caffé, The Blessington Carriage, Café Lavanta, the Cathedral Quarter, David Lloyd, Déda, Guildhall Theatre Mainhouse and Clubrooms, Market Place, The Maypole Café Bar and Theatre, The Old Bell Hotel and St Peters Cross.
The programme will be diverse, including stand-up, variety, outdoor and indoor events, with well-known national artists and a host of up and coming artists ready to fill Derby with laughter. Highlights include local favourite Mike McClean, Paul Tonkinson direct from supporting Michael McIntyre, Edinburgh Newcomer nominee Imran Yusuf, Derby-based Verbal Discharge, Vincent Saxby and Chris Brooker, the brilliantly funny Patrick Monohan and the outrageous Shazia Mirza.
