The Lost Boys lead the St George's Day Celebrations!

Tue 12 Mar 2019

On Saturday 20 April local theatre company The Lost Boys will be leading the St George’s Day celebrations through Derby City Centre, between 11:30am and 3pm.

The Lost Boys are a Derby-based theatre company who aim to take classical and popular stories and present them in new and challenging ways, often resulting in tongue-in-cheek and humorous performances. After leading the St George’s Day parade from The Spot to the Market Place The Lost Boys will entertain the audience with a tongue-in-cheek retelling of St George and the Dragon.

Following The Lost Boys, audiences will have the chance to enjoy dance performances including a Maypole Workshop and Ceilidh Jam from Folk Dance Remixed as part of the Market Place Stage Show. Elsewhere on the Market Place Megabeast Productions will be mesmerising with their Treemendous characters, and Circii will be thrilling crowds with The Pigeons.

Throughout the day guests can enjoy events at the Market Place including free Have A Go Long Bow Archery from Reach the Core, the return of the Arts and Craft Fair and displays of Armour and Medieval Combat from the 14th century medieval combat group Team Falchion.

Councillor Alan Grimadell, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “The St George’s Day celebrations are a well-loved event in the Derby calendar and we are looking forward to more fantastic celebrations this year. We are excited to be in partnership with The Lost Boys once again this year, bringing the story of St George and the Dragon to life to the delight of the Derby City Centre audience.”

The annual St George’s Day parade will start at The Spot at 11:30am. St George will lead the parade, winding through the city like a dragon’s tail to the Market Place where The Lost Boys’ great tale will begin at 12 noon.

The St George’s Day Celebrations will take place on Saturday 20 April in Derby City Centre, 11am – 3pm. The event is free to attend and the full programme is available here.
