About the Event
This event is promoted by Derby Sport Management, Derby LIVE are pleased to act as a ticket agent.
An evening with Wayne Madsen includes a welcoming reception and Q&A. The evening will be hosted by BBC and Sunday Times Cricket Broadcaster and journalist, Elizabeth Ammon (LegSideLizzy).
The evening's entertainment will also include an auction as well as a prize draw, including a very special prize for one lucky member from the audience. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Wayne's benefit season trust.
Wayne decided to adopt England as his new home and in 2009 joined Derbyshire. Three years later he was elected as captain and won the Division Two title in his first year.
In the club’s first year in Division One he scored 1,221 runs and was the first player to reach 1,000 runs in Division One. Wayne named as Championship cricketer of the year by the Cricket Writers' Club but he was also rewarded with a new three-year contract. He is currently 636 runs short of 10,000 first class runs, having scored 25 centuries and a highest score of 231 not out, averaging 40.18.
As Wayne has his sights on an England cap, many South Africans can relate to the sacrifice it takes in leaving your friends, family and country of birth behind and starting new life abroad. Wayne will be sharing some of these experiences with the audience who will also have an opportunity to ask Wayne about his thoughts on the current state of South African sport and politics, life as an overseas professional as well as his life outside of cricket - not forgetting the fact that Wayne represented South Africa at hockey in the Commonwealth Games, World Cup and is an African Cup winner.
