Benjamin Britten's War Requiem
And Peter Roberts' Strange Meeting
Wed 28 Jun 2017
Derby Cathedral
Suitable for ages 14+
About the Event
Join us for an evening of profound beauty at Derby Cathedral, for an event of two equally powerful halves.
The evening opens with the world premiere of Strange Meeting, an emotionally charged play inspired by Owen’s poem Strange Meeting. Commissioned by Sinfonia Viva for Lost Boys, the play is written by Peter Roberts and takes you on a journey of great importance, through the eyes of two men, who demonstrate the tragic nature of war.
The second half see’s Grammy nominated Orchestra Sinfonia Viva present extracts of Britten’s War Requiem. In his War Requiem, Britten used some of his most emotive music when setting Wilfred Owen’s poems. This stirring and powerful performance will feature extracts from the seminal work and offers a unique opportunity to hear this timeless music in the resonant acoustics of Derby Cathedral. Also featuring the boys from Derby Cathedral Choir and performances from tenor soloist Phillip Brown and baritone soloist Grant Doyle. The concert will be conducted by Sinfonia Viva’s Choral Advisor David Lawrence.
