About the Event
An evening of music from rising folk stars including; Said The Maiden, Robyn Johnson and Jay Walkers
Said The Maiden
Said the Maiden are a new Hertfordshire-based vocal trio, making waves on the folk scene. All musicians from an early age their well-matched vocals and gorgeous arrangements bring new life to traditional songs, and over time they have fleshed out their sound with accompaniments on the accordion, ukulele, guitar, violin and flute.
Robyn Johnson
Robyn Johnson is a folk acoustic singer and song writer from the Midlands.
The evening began with the silky voice and engaging songs of Robyn Johnson. This locally based performer proved to be the perfect opening to proceedings with a mixture of well-conceived musical anecdotes and heart-warming confessionals. Derby Telegraph
Jay Walkers
Jay Walkers are one of the most exciting, virtuosic and entertaining young bands on the UK folk scene. They formed in the summer of 2008, after meeting at their weekly session and went on to reach the final of the BBC Young Folk Awards 2009. With Lancashire dialect poems, ballads and quirky stories from the area used for inspiration, their songs - mostly originals written by the band - present a fresh twist on long and often forgotten stories and ideas from the Northern culture they grew up in. Individually, the band are very accomplished on their respective instruments (mandolin, fiddle, guitar, bass) with Mike (having won numerous national competitions and competed at international competitions) on mandolin, Jay on fiddle and lead vocals and Lucy on double bass.
