Silk Mill Festival 2016
Sat 18 Jun, 10:30am
Market Place
About the Event
Celebrate the history and the fight for a future of Derby's ordinary working class people in this Silk Mill Lockout Festival.
Join us and support the local campaigners, trade unions, musicians, community organisations and many more in representing the diversity and unity of the Derby people.
There will be a march through the town with banners flying through the air and performances from rock bands. Attilla The Stockbroker, a Socialist performance poet and stand-up comedian is in charge of proceedings, also joined by the Clarion Choir from Nottingham.
There will be dozens of stalls and activities for kids and all the family, along with food, drinks, ice creams… and a special celebration ale available too!
The Silk Mill Festival takes place on Saturday 18 June from 10:30am in the Market Place, then following the march from 12.30 – 4.30pm at Cathedral Green facing the Silk Mill itself.
The Furthest From The Sea Festvial will also be taking place on the same day – in which local artists and musicians will be entertaining and inspiring people at more than a dozen locations around the town.

After the march, join the crowd at the Quad, where they will be screening the short film Locked Out! about the Silk Mill events from 1833-34. The film begins at 5pm and is free to watch - please bear in mind that this will be on a first come, first served basis.
