About the Event
The second Sinfonia Viva concert this season in Derby Cathedral continues its Beethoven exploration along with one of Mozart’s most famous concertos.
Principal Conductor Duncan Ward returns to conduct as Samuel Jacobs (horn) joins them for an exciting evening of classics in Derby.
Program:
Mendelssohn Fair Melusine Overture
The inspiration for his Overture the eponymous mermaid-come-serpent (depending on which version of the legend is being told) Melusine.
Pärt Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten
Arvo Pärt’s 1977 elegy marking Britten’s death the year before.
Mozart Horn Concerto No.4
Composed with one player in mind – his long-standing friend Ignaz Leutgeb.
Beethoven Symphony No.7
Composed for a benefit concert in aid of Austrian and Bavarian soldiers, the première was conducted by Beethoven himself.
A varied and engrossing programme for lovers of classical music to savour!
