About the Event

Colonel Fairfax is awaiting execution having been falsely charged by an evil kinsman who stands to inherit all Fairfax’s estates if he dies unmarried.

To thwart the kinsman the Colonel persuades the Lieutenant of the Tower to find a woman who would be prepared to marry him immediately prior to his execution. At the opportune moment strolling players, jester Jack Point and his sweetheart Elsie, arrive at Tower Green. Elsie needs money for her sick mother and reluctantly agrees to marry Fairfax, knowing he is to be beheaded within the hour.

Then a plot to rescue Fairfax is successful, but he remains in the Tower, disguised as a Yeoman Warder. He now regrets his hasty marriage to an unknown bride, and Elsie and Point are horrified.
