We may have cancelled our annual Superhero Picnic in the Park due to Covid-19, but now we are going virtual! For this year’s event, instead of us all flocking to our local parks, we invite you to join Derby Parks online for a free, fun-filled day as we celebrate in true superhero style with our new Superhero Picnic at Home!
On Tuesday 28 July from 11am to 3pm, we will be sharing lots of activities, crafts and videos online for you to get involved with in your own home, not forgetting everyone’s favourite Superhero Picnic Lunch. So put on your best Superhero outfit, and prepare your tastiest sandwiches ready for a super day!
We will be releasing a full schedule of events on our Facebook event closer to the time, and we can’t wait to share all that we have in store. From getting active to getting crafty, we are sure your kids will love some of the events we have planned. We will also be releasing a range of great activities for you to do ahead of picnic day to help you to prepare. You’ll be able to download and colour in your own superhero mask, perfect for finishing off any super costume, and you can download and create your own bunting to hang up in your garden or living room to truly enjoy the festivities. We will also be making our special superhero certificates available for download so that you can print yours out and certify that you are a super superhero.
For this year’s picnic, we also want to celebrate all of your heroes, so we want to know who your hero is. It could be your mum, dad, aunty or uncle, or maybe it’s your local postal workers, park rangers or refuse collectors – whoever it is, we want to celebrate the impact they have had in your life and say a huge thank you! Take a photo with them and, with their permission, share it with us on the @DerbyParks social media pages, using the hashtag #MySuperhero. Post your photos in advance of the day, and we will share them on our superhero wall to celebrate all of our Derby heroes. For more information about how to post on our platforms, see further down this page.
To keep up to date with the latest information about the event, visit our website at inderby.org.uk/superhero or click attending on the Facebook event here. We are looking forward to seeing you all dressing up as your favourite superheroes and celebrating summer with a super picnic at home with us this year.

We also have some great ideas to get you and your family feeling crafty in the lead up and during the event:
Get creative and make your favourite superhero – all you need is paper, some paint and your hand! Place your hand print on the paper and then add eyes, a superhero belt and any other accessories your superhero needs!
Get back to nature and make a superhero out of things you can find in your garden. Using sticks, stones, flowers and leaves, create a garden superhero!
Share your creations on social media and tag @DerbyParks so we can see them! We hope you have a super time with all these activities.
For our Superhero Picnic at Home, we are launching a Superhero wall to celebrate all of your heroes! We want to see your photos of the person who is the superhero in your life, plus the reasons why they are your hero. It might be your parent, carer or a keyworker you know.
