Get out together in Derby this Valentine's Day

It’s that time of year again, love is in the air and Derby has plenty of romantic activities on offer. Whether it’s getting out and about, taking in some entertainment or working up a sweat, there’s something for everyone.

Anyone who fancies singing along to some of the greatest love songs ever known will love Whitney – Queen of the Night on Friday 8 February at Derby Arena. This award winning production is a stunning celebration of the music and life of one of the greatest singers of our time. Featuring a sensational line-up of musicians and artistes, together with a powerhouse and breath-taking performance in the spirit of Whitney, audiences will be taken on a magical rollercoaster ride through three decades of classic hits. Couples can sing their hearts out to I Will Always Love You, Galentine’s can get down to I’m Every Woman and anyone flying solo can throw their arms in the air to I Wanna Dance With Somebody. If romance means getting active couples will love a game of tennis on Markeaton, Alvaston and Chaddesden’s courts. Find out more about tennis in Derby Parks here. Valid from Friday 1 – Friday 15 February, the pass can be used across Derby Active’s three leisure facilities for up to two people, so couples can work up a sweat together. There’s nothing more romantic than a stroll in the park and Derby Parks have plenty to offer those looking to do just that this Valentine’s Day. Forget the roses and head to Markeaton Park to take a stroll through the intimate Rose Garden. Breathe the fresh, crisp air and take a gentle walk around the 18th and 19th Century Pleasure Gardens, and the Walled Garden before enjoying a relaxing tea and cake at the Orangery Café.

A day out in the park is also a great option for couples with children, the Mundy Play Centre at Markeaton Park is set in the rolling woodland of the park providing unlimited options for a family to enjoy a day out in nature. Alternatively enjoy the beautiful scenery at Darley Park, visitors can explore the butterfly garden and the hydrangea collection whilst looking out for the unique wildlife, for a relaxing and romantic day.

For those looking for the perfect gift for their loved one this Valentine’s Day, tickets to the outdoor cinema experience to see Dirty Dancing  will be the perfect romantic gesture. Couples can cosy up in Markeaton Park Craft Village to watch the romantic classic Dirty Dancing on Friday 2 August. Exchange Words of Love with tickets to see Buddy Holly and the Cricketers on Sunday 17 February. Couples can listen to some of the greatest love songs of all time with the country’s first and best-loved Buddy Holly act at Landau Forte College Theatre.
