Discover Dragons, Medieval Knights & St George in this free family event in Derby’s city centre.

Derby’s annual St George’s Day celebrations highlights English heritage and culture in all its eccentricities.  

The St George’s Day celebration will run from 12 noon until 2pm. 

Programme:

12 - 2pm at St Peter’s Cross, Derby City Centre

Environmentally friendly family craft activities, including making dragons and flags with Scraggy Moo. Sponsored and working in partnership with the St Peter’s Quarter BID. Keep your eyes out for The Dragon appearing throughout the day.

The Waterfall, Derby Market Place

12 - 2pm Join Team Falchion as they show lots of medieval activities such as how to play medieval games, help weave a blanket, speak to the Medieval Archer and wonderful spectacle of knights sparring. 

  • 12:00-12:05pm - The Lost Boys, AVP Theatre, Team Falchion as they kick off St Georges Day by welcoming all attending by the Waterfall.
  • 12:05-12:10pm - St George and Dragon Battle. A tongue-in-cheek re-telling of St George and the Dragon battle from The Lost Boys.
  • 12:10-12:40pm - AVP Theatre puppet show. We welcome AVP Theatre for the first recreation the St George and the Dragon story as a family friendly fairytale.
  • 12:40-1:10pm - Knight's workshop. Join The Lost Boys as they provide an opportunity to teach you about chivalry and sword fighting.
  • 1:10-1:30pm - Knight's workshop part 2. Want to take a further step in to being a knight? Join Team Falchion as they put on a workshop to further enhance the knights in training. The Earl of Derby will be on the look out for children from Lost Boys Knight School into their Arena for further training.
  • 1:30-2:00pm - AVP Theatre puppet show. Enjoy the second showing of AVP Theatre recreating the St George and the Dragon story as a family friendly fairytale.
