This year's theme
Couples come in all varieties: from wildly romantic to completely platonic; from magical and mysterious to business-like, matter-of-fact, working partnerships; from the caring-and-sharing to the out-and-out warring…
Whatever the nature, the theme of ‘couples’ has remained a dominant one in musical history right up to the present day – be it famous collaborating composer-and-lyricist teams, sensational performing duos, or the many thousands of songs and melodies which explore the highs and lows of relationships between two people in (or out) of love.
This year’s Darley Park Concert explores the full breadth of the theme through a sparkling selection of tunes, with connections explained and pieces introduced by returning conductor James Holmes, joined for vocal selections by soloists Oliver Johnston (tenor), Rosalind Coad (soprano) and members of the Big Adventures Youth Theatre Company.
