Christmas in the park for all of the family with a free elf trail, festive food, music and much more!
What to expect
Come along to this free event, where you will find lots of stalls. Providing the opportunity to purchase some bespoke gifts and handmade items including cards, decorations, candles and much more, whilst enjoying the unique surroundings which Markeaton Park Craft Village offers. You can expect plenty of festive music this weekend with The Invisible Friends, Derwent Valley Wind Band and Rolls Royce Brass Band
Derwent Valley Wind Band
Performing on Sunday 1st December 11:00 - 11:45 and 12:15 - 13:00. Derwent Valley Windband is excited to be playing as part of this year’s Family Festivities at Markeaton Park. The band provides a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for players of all ages. Rehearsals are held weekly, with the band playing at several local parks and fetes during the summer, as well as the village carnival and arts festival. Rehearsals are at Ecclesbourne school on Mondays; Training band (for those just starting to learn an instrument) from 6.00-6.30pm and the Main band from 6:45pm - 8:30pm , during Term time. If you are interested just turn up to one of our rehearsals.
Rolls Royce Brass Band
Fresh after performing at the Brass Band National Finals, the Rolls-Royce (Derby) Band look forward to playing at Family Festivities this year. Performing on Saturday 30 November, between 11:00 – 11:45, and 12:15 – 13:00.
Collect a free Elf Trail map from Markeaton Park Craft Village. Follow the map around the park to find the elf houses! Completed entries will be put into a prize draw, to be in with the chance of winning some treats! We always appreciate help with dressing the elf houses, with your decorated rocks…so feel free to hide some on the trail!
Visit Markeaton Park Craft Village to try and spot Father Christmas’s nine reindeer who are playing hide and seek. Pick up a free activity sheet from the Craft Village.
Markie and Parkie
Highlight of the weekend. Come along and spot the two cheeky elves of Markeaton Park, Markie and Parkie. They like throwing snowballs at each other, as well as at unsuspecting visitors! You might find them playing around the Craft Village, or causing chaos on the Elf Trail!
Letters to Father Christmas
Come along and post your letters to Father Christmas at our North Pole post box in Markeaton Park Craft Village.
Bring along your home decorated stones and rocks and hide them along your walk for others to find. Don’t forget to upload your images to the ‘Derby Parks’ and ‘Derbyshire Rocks’ Facebook pages. Remember, keep safe, and don’t forget to hide and find rocks in accessible locations and go hunting with an adult. Enjoy!
Rainbow Ribbon Tree
23rd November - 1st December 2019 is #NationalTreeWeek which is the UK's largest tree celebration, annually launching the start of the winter tree planting season. National Tree Week provides a great chance for communities to do something positive for their local treescape. To celebrate the end of #nationaltreeweek, come along to place a ribbon around our tree located just outside Markeaton Park Craft Village.
Jumping Clay are loving Christmas Elves this year.
1) Jumping Clay are running drop-in make your own Elf Bauble or Magnet workshops for a special price of £3 for the face or £5 for the whole Elf over the festive weekend, 11am – 3pm both days. Recommended for age 2 - 99!
2) Jumping Clay is also running drop-in make your own cuddly friendly elf workshops for a special price of £12 (or 2 for £20) from 11am – 3pm. Recommended for age 2 - 99!

Jump in and create your own Christmas gifts, cake toppers, decorations using our colourful and mess free air drying clay! Creative fun for the whole family!
3) Sat 30th Nov and Sunday 1st Dec - 11:00 - 12:00 3D Elf. Whether you are new to Jumping Clay or experienced, all abilities will have suitable options. Recommended for children age 8 upwards and adults. All materials and equipment provided in the £10 including refreshments and a protective box at the end of the session.
4) Sat 30th Nov and Sun 1st Dec 14:00 - 15:00 Beautiful Tree Decorations - All abilities catered for. Recommended for children age 5 upwards and adults. All materials and equipment provided in the £10 including refreshments and a protective box at the end of the session.

Susan Hill Jewellery will be open for people to buy handmade and local gifts, and booking jewellery and silversmithing workshops.
Suzy Blues Flowers
Suzy Blues Flowers will be open during Family Festivities on 30 November and 1 December 2019, between 11am and 3pm. They’ll have beautiful fresh and artificial wreaths for sale, along with a variety of handmade seasonal decorations and floral arrangements. Pop in to their craft unit at Markeaton Park Craft Village, or have a look on their website www.suzybluesflowers.com. Prices start from £10.
Paint a Pot
Paint a Pot will be open throughout the event. A fun and relaxing place for people of all ages to come and create something unique. Paint a Pot allows you to choose an item from their large selection to decorate and take home.
Little Tins of Loveliness
Little Tins of Loveliness will be open throughout the event. With a passion for making through courses and workshop, plus their carefully designed Little Tins kits have beautifully illustrated step-by-step instructions as well as high quality fabrics and components.
Studio in the Park
Come and join us for our Pinecone Wreath making Classes - we have an abundance of beautiful embellishments to make your wreath stand out from the crowd! Cost from £25.00 depending on size. Matthew Morris Furniture
Matthew Morris Furniture will be open throughout the event. Watch Matthew create his beautiful hardwood furniture and see pictures of his work. He specialises in architectural joinery.
Lilac Joinery will be open throughout the event. Lilac Joinery produces garden furniture, play houses and children's furniture.
A free drop-in printmaking activity run by Emma and Duncan Pass of Write Print Create, a partnership running creative workshops for wellbeing across the East Midlands. You will also have the opportunity to purchase some of Duncan's prints and cards!
We are delighted to announce that Andrew Frost, a renowned wood sculptor, will be attending Family Festivities. Andrew combines outdoor work with creativity, in the form of wood sculptures and the sole use of a chainsaw. Come along and see him in action in front of the Orangery Cafe, between 11am and 3pm on 30 Nov and 1 Dec! Check out some of his amazing work here.
Feel the Christmas Spirit as you line up with other ‘santas’ to support your local hospital charity. The Jingle Jog takes you on a 5km (3.1 miles) route around the picturesque Markeaton Park. The fun run is for everyone, adults, children and dogs alike. You don’t have to run, you can walk, jog or run – its up to you.
Take the opportunity to visit the Mundy Play Centre Play Area and the Pirate Ship and enjoy a walk around the park… remember it’s free! Have a go on the brand new Mini Golf course!
Visit the warmth of the Orangery Café to enjoy festive food and drink as well as mince pies and spiced mulled wine, festive paninis, Christmas cupcakes & muffins amongst many other festive treats!
Famous Trails Model Railway
Open as usual between 11am and 4pm.
Make sure to visit Markeaton Park Craft Village and take a photo in front of the giant Christmas tree which will be festively decorated.
Guided Winter Walks
Come and join us for two free festive guided winter walks on Saturday 30th November during the Markeaton Family Festivities at Markeaton Park.
A Festive Dog Walk takes place at 11.45am with all participants both human and canine, invited to dress festively for the occasion! A Festive family story walk follows on from this at 1pm!
Both walks start and finish at the Christmas tree in the craft village and are open to all. There’s no need to book, just turn up and the walks last around 30-45 minutes. We look forward to seeing you there!
